We booked on a four day tour to the Jumo Reserve. We had a really good time with our guide, Damion, who introduced us to life in the rainforest. The wildlife proved elusive, although we managed to spot river dolphins, toucans, and a sloth from a distance. The highlight for me was when we caught and got to hold a baby alligator (caiman).

We really enjoyed the trip. we had relatively good service from the moment we were aproached all the way till we were back from the forest. The accomodation was simple but nice and the people were friendly and very accomodating. The food was also simple but tasty and we enjoyed it all. it was great to be in the forest and we had some amazing sightings!!!
we recommend the trip.

Very nice, fun and interesting. The place is beautiful and nice to live in, the owners, people who work there and tour guides are lovely. You can discover lots f plants and animals. It would have been even better if I had stayed more than two days but it was already really good! And I loved eating the local fish!
And the transport was well organised.

Hallo!
Blir nok flere jungelturer!!

I had a very good 4 day jungle trip booked with Claudio from Amazon Backpackers. Our guide Rubin was excellent inspite of two obnoxious Amercian girls.
He was extremely friendly and knowledgable and made the trip a log of fun. I would have liked to have seen more animals, but we were in an area where many Indians lived so I supposed they have been eaten or scared away.
28/01/2009 - Becky Webb (British)
Sami from Amazon Backpackers was a fantastic guide. The trip was brilliant fun. We had the perfect number of people in our group (5). I was very impressed with the food and the flexibility of the trip. If we wanted a swim, we could go out for a swim. We did not want to stay in the lodge so we went straight out to the camp in the jungle etc. Well. worth the money. Thanks.

We - a family of four - stayed at the boat for three days. The crew of four was extremely nice to us. Three times a day they prepared a wonderful meal with many things to choose from: fruits, meat, cheese, juices, coffee, tea etc. Our guide, Ruben, was e realy pleasant and funny fellow, who's english was very good. He knew 'everything' of the jungle and was very willing to explain things. The boat has got two cabins: both are basic and one of them is very small. We did'nt mind but you should not expect too much of this. Maybe bring your hammock and sleep outside! We got to know many relatives of the crew, who lived in the area. It gave us a great opportunity to see how they live, and how friendly they are; we had a lot of fun with them, especially with the kids (swimming and playing domino)..
The trip organized by Amazon Backpackers Tours was a great fun and amazing advanture. The service was very nice, food delicious, tour guides experienced and funny (many greetings to Sammy!!). It´s definitely worth recommendation.

The tour was excellent. It was the perfect combination of excitement and relaxation. The hotel they had us at in the jungle was very nice and everyone on our tour was great. I especially liked the fishing and preparing of the meal and the night time tour of animals. They were accomodating to our needs and the tour went the pace we wanted it.

We have had a fantastic tour threw the jungle of the Amazone. Our guide, Ruben, was a nice guide. He was like a part of the family. during the days we have seen and caught lots of animals, like kaymans sloaks and spiders. Every we got closer to the nature because of the amazingly guide. We even slept in the jungle between the animals. The lodge was covered by beautiful nature. The view was very nice, with all the birds and the lake in front of us. The food could have been better in the lodge.
When we have the change to go back to Brasil, we will definitly do this tour again and hopefully with our guide Ruben!

We had a really enjoyable trip to the jungle, seeing many birds and even holding a caiman. We particularly enjoyed our night in the jungle and the meal cooked over an open fire.

I went on a jungle tour of the Amazon with Amazon Backpacker Tours and it was fantastic!
Claudio and his team were very helpful and professional. The tour felt very rustic and genuine. The authentic cuisine contributed to a wonderful adventure. I particularly found the guides to be knowledgable and personable. I recommend Amazon Backpacker Tours for those who want something real.

I would like to recommend Amazon BackBackers Tour. I have done a trip for 3 days by boat, if you like you can also spend a night in the jungle. We had a guide who is the real deal, ask for him, his name is Anthonio. He knows a lot about the flora and founa and about the people living in the region. He catches caimans from the riviers and climbs in to threes to catch a cobra! The food on board was really good also. Make sure you bring a lot od repellant and do wear long sleeves, you will run into mosquitos for sure... Claudio is the owner of Amozon Backpackers Tour and besides selling good trips ask you can ask him can rearange about anything the get you out of Manaus to yor next destinations.

If you have Ruben as your guide you will have struck gold! We couldn't find a question he didn't have the answer to, and he's super friendly with his constant jokes, which should sometimes be taken seriously- he proved himself when we jokingly suggested he climb an enormous tree to get down a boa constrictor he had spotted and 10 minutes later he was back in front of us, the massive snake wrapped around one arm. What a cool guy- always 'risking it for a biscuit' as he would say!
All the activities were really good- we got taught how to do lots of cool stuff like fish for pirahnas, and we met a guy who had single handedly killed an 11-metre anaconda. He also had 18 children. What a man!
The lodge is simple but really good fun, and the night we spent in the jungle was well worth doing and really memorable, as long as you take mosquito repellent and suncream!
In case you can't already tell, we had a fantastic time and definitely reccommend Amazon Backpackers! 4 days and 3 nights was the perfect amount of time- any less and you risk not seeing all the awesome animals.
Thank you so much to Claudio and Ruben for everything. If we can, we'll definitely be back!

Thanks so much, we had an absolutely awsome trip. Great food, great activities and great guide. Overall fantastic experience. Sami vom Amazon Backpackers was very impressive and I felt like he taught me a lot. Cheers.

I would highly recommend Amazon Backpackers for anyone travelling into the Amazon for the first time. You get a real feel for the rainforest and the guides are crazy (in a good way).
26/06/2009 - Ailbe Coffey (Ireland)
We loved our trip to the jungle, fishing for piranha, trecking, canoeing and meeting & staying with a local family. Our guide, Demien, was better than we imagined, a real life jungle man. I higly recommend this trip to any one who comes to Manaus looking for an insight into how the people live in this beautiful part of Brazil live. The only drawback for us was that we could only spend 3 days out at the lodge....stay longer if you can. You will not regret it.

We had a great time in the jungle with Amazon Backpackers Tours - we saw some amazing things and felt very looked after by the whole team. In particular, our guide Luis was knowledgeable, helpful and a lot of fun. We\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'d definitely recommend these guys.

My meeting with Claudio and Shanon of Amazon Backpackers changed my whole trip to Manause and the Amazon jungle. They are very warm, hlepful and most of all speak English!!!!
I did a 4 night 5 day tour which gave me enough time to cover everything. RUBEN my guide is simply the best. HIs knowlege is amazing. He has a great sense of humour and always very cheeful. His love for adventure and the ability to handle animals is great.
I had the best time ever... and wonderful experiences to go home with.
I very highly recommend Amazon Backpackers and dont forget to ask for Ruben.

The trip to Amazonas was a very nice experience, we had a really good guides, Ruben and Giomar. Both of them know everything about the wild life, flora, fauna and they teached us a lot of interesting things about the jungle; also they told us a lot of stories about the natives (Ruben speaks a very good english). Absolutly we did a very good selection.
17/11/2009 - Malin and Sebastian (Sweden)
We took a four days trip in the Amazon and we had a really good time. Our guide, Ruben, was great. His knowledge about the nature was very good and he was fun.
The best was sleeping in the jungle, catching kaymans and hiking!

We would certainly recommend using Amazon Backpackers on your Amazon tour. The company is conveniently located on the first floor of the 10 of July hotel, near the main square in Manaus, which also makes it easier to find lodging before and after your tour. Regarding the actual tour, our guide Antonio was fantastic. He knew everything there is to know about the jungle and all the plants and animals that live in it. Great time.
24/02/2010 - Matt and Sophie (Australia)
Tour was everything we wanted. Sammy the guide was excellent, passed on a lot of his knowledge on the animals, environment, plants and natural medicines. He has a cure for everything. We were looked after very well and the food and accomodation was really good.
Would definately recommend this tour.
22/02/2010 - Sam Gordon (Australia)
Was really good you really get to go pretty deep in the amazon. Food is good and the guides and really nice and friendly and an really good experience overall.
I would recommend amazonbackpackers.
Booking the trip via e-mail was very uncomplicated and getting to the Lodge worked well.
I had an awesome time at the jungle. We spend a night deep in the forest sleeping in hammocks and preparing food over open fire, we were trekking, fishing, swimming... The Guide, Rubem, explained alot about the Plants, Animals and Indiginous people. I learned a lot and had great fun. You shouldn't miss it while in Brasil.
25/06/2009 - Laura Whitehouse (Autralian)
Fantastic tour! We went for only 2 days, 1 night and we saw so many animals - sloths, pink dolphins, grey dolphins, snakes, caiman (and we were able to hold most of them too!). Great guide, spoke fluent English., knows a lot about all the fora and fauna and had a good sence of humour. Plenty of food for vegetarians.
Thanks.

Buona esperienza a tutti.
This Agency is really organized very well and this trip in deep Jungle you will take breath away for thousand reason. Firstly the Guide Roubens is very funny and he knows very well how to do a Camp in the Jungle and sleep on an hammock. UNFORGETTABLE! Great experience never Forget!
I had a really good time! The guide was great, he knew so much about the area and all the animals and plants! We saw so many different animals, monkeys, tarantuals, snakes, camens to name a few!
The Jungle Lodge was really nice and friendly everyone went out of their way to help you and it looked over the river.
We spent 2 nights camping outdoors to which was so much fun, our guide prepared delicious food, the campfire was great, hamocks comfortable and there was lots of jungle noises to listen too! Make sure you take really good insect repellant though (at least 50% DEET) and put it under your clothers cos they bite through, we made that mistake the first night! The next night we hardly got any bites.
We also spent a night with a Native family who were really welcoming the children were so friendly and they had a little baby monkey they saved who was goregous! As well as cobras, parrots and a host of other animals!
The days were really good too, swimming in the river, seeing loads of animals and fishing, tho we were unlucky and didnt catch many fish!
Booking was easy and it was a good trip!
I love my time in the Jungle and would highly recommend this company!!

Peter here.I wanted to touch base with you about our trip on the Araça river. We all enjoyed the experience a lot. Our travel agent at the Tropical Hotel told us it would be an adventurous trip - and adventurous it was. The start was a bit frightening. As real Europeans we were afraid to find the Amazon region in bad condition - we hear the stories for years where we live about the burning and logging of the Amazon at a pace of a football-field per second.Well, the first day it was bad on the burning field, a smell of smoke everywhere and a real smog hanging over the river Araça and the jungle. Rather unpleasant and scary. The lodge was ok - we know what we paid for but we got the best room available and that one was better than expected. The impression of the lodge was badly influenced by the garbage thrown around by former guests I guess or by the people from the lodge themselves. Food was good. For the first afternoon we went out fishing for piranhas which was great fun for Lara but also for me as I could take a lot of nice pictures around sunset when the smog was almost gone.I have a rather expensive camera and lenses but Elmo was extremely thoughtful about it and helped me a lot by pointing out when it would be better to hide it against humidity etc..
To our amazement Elmo turned out to talk at least 6 languages and Dutch was one of it - he explained us he learned our language through reading cartoons of the better sort like Asterix and Obelix. He turned out to be a very fine guide overall as he was a living encyclopedia regarding so many things - and he knows the names of so many plants and animals in all the different language + one ( Latin ).
At night after dinner we took the boat again for an alligator hunt.A very nice experience but we let the alligator go soon after. Jumar, the 18 year old boy who accompanied us turned out to be an excellent spear-fisher the next day and showed Lara how to use the bow and arrow. Elmo made an excellent fish-soup with our catch of pacu and other very delicate fishes so we ate very well again ( the night before we devoured the piranha for a change of matters ).
In the afternoon we saw a boat full of army people going down the stream and together with some rain, this had some influence as we saw less smog the coming days and the smell of burning was also less. The next day I heard from a local that they were searching for illegal fires and the people that cause them.
I think you know but at least you should know that the owner of the lodge burns the jungle himself too. Elmo was embarassed when we found out and tried to talk the owner out of it telling us it was in order to get rid of the snakes. It's for breeding more cows of course, as so many people do there unfortunately.Or for the manioc but in this case it was obviously for cows. I think it's difficult to find people who don't do it ,but try to work with those as I am sure it would help your business if you would.
The next night we stayed in the jungle which was a nice experience altogether. Two suggestions : first, the was a lot of garbage when we arrived - ok - it was organic but it's no fun to have it all around : eggshells- fruit-peels etc..and really in the camp.Second - I am sure there are better places as this place gave no real jungle feeling - you come out the boat on a large lake where you see a lot of real vacation houses - not the ones where the locals live but the ones where the people from Manaus come to spend the week-end fishing. And then after 150 meters you set up a camp. I can tell you I heard pop-music when I was trying to sleep in the hammock and of course the noise of boats passing by till late in the evening. The good things were the company - I had a very nice talk with Elmo about prog-music in the seventies and the food . Sebastien made a great chicken cooked to perfection. He certainly made up for the other guide who had not shown up ( the tarantula - specialist ).Next morning Sebastien proved he was a better cook than a guide as we saw no spider at all - but no harm Elmo proposed us to go directly to Jumar's house where his younger brother Denito would guide us. This was a very nice boat-drive to that other lake and there we felt we were in the real jungle.Elmo told us there were a lot of Jaguars there and I believed him after our hike.Tarantula's galore and I could take very nice pictures. We passed also a camp made by Jumar - this was the real jungle and no trash at all. We were in the house of the indiginous boys ( 9 or 10 children there ) and we had a very pleasant time there - really nice parents and those two boys Jumar and Denito are smart kids. Elmo always speaks about the fact that the kids should learn English and he is very much respected by the younger folk.He is also very generous and gave away several of his English course-books on different occasions. He is a real intellectual and wants to spread the word of education for sure. The day of our departure , just before our last trip he talked to the owner of the hotel about the garbage and when we came back the place had undergone a complete transformation - all the garbage was gone - what a different impression that gave.
Altogether, a very interesting experience , adventurous as you told us and the best of all was our guide Elmo- but you had said that you would send your best one with us - Thanks Claudio

Me and a friend (jungle boy as he´s known now) had a great time having 3 days and two nights in the jungle. Rueben knew his stuff, and apart from the evil mozzys at night, I found the experience very rewarding. Fair play to Rueben... how He gets to sleep at night in the jungle is a mystery to me :)
Top bloke. Top trip.

Podeis escribirme a mi email si quereis algun detalle mas o algun consejo. Un saludo. Pablo
